As it turns out, Gavin was the last boy left in the competition. The 3 girls against whom he continued to compete were 5th graders.
Alas, Gavin was eliminated on the word "occupancy", because he spelled it with an "e" instead of an "a".
I am very proud of him for competing and making it so far in the spelling bee! Language arts in general has never been his forte. He is most adept at math, science and art, all of which he enjoys. Unlike me - I attended college to major in English - he wants to attend art school, an ambition I support 100%.
But of course I couldn't be more excited about his excellent spelling bee showing.
I'm really looking forward to his return next weekend. Athena Academy will be back in session.
